THE URBAN TRANSIT CHALLENGES

This week we have been task from lecturer to make a research what are the challenges faced by urban transit. First of all, we will explain what is urban transit. Urban transit involve changing modes of transportation it also can be be defined as new intermodal system for example from road modes transfer to water or rail to sends the freight to the destination. Urbanization has been one of the dominant contemporary processes as a growing share of the global population lives in cities. Considering this trend, urban transportation issues are of foremost importance to support the passengers and freight mobility requirements of large urban focus. Transportation in urban areas is highly complex because of the modes involved, the multitude of origins and destinations, and the amount and variety of traffic. Traditionally, the focus of urban transportation has been on passengers as cities were viewed as locations of utmost human interactions with busy traffic patterns linked to commuting, commercial transactions and leisure/cultural activities. Urban transit is an important dimension of mobility, notably in high density. so here we will list a few that Urban transit challenges:

1.Traffic congestion and parking difficulties.
This problem can be count as a main problem in Urban transit. It will happen in a city that have a population 1 million or more people. It is particularly linked with motorization and the diffusion of automobile, which has increased the demand for transport infrastructures has often not been able to keep up with the growth of mobility. Since vehicle spend the majority of the time parked, motorization has expanded the demand for parking space, which has created space consumption problems particularly in central areas. Congestion and parking also interrelated since looking for a parking space creates additional delays and impairs local circulation. In central areas of large cities cruising may account for more than 10% of the local circulation as drivers can spend 20 minutes looking for a parking spot. This practice is often judged more economically effective than using a paying-off street parking facility as the time spent looking for a free parking space as compensated by the monetary savings. Also, many delivery vehicles will simply double-park at the closest possible spot to unload their cargo. directly, this will easier to transit the shipment.

2. Government regulation and policy
In our country there is so many regulation and policy been held , there is also have a government policy for transit in trucking industry. So a few of this regulation will affect the process of transit. For example the documentation of the freight there is many document that need to consider and to be checking during transit so it is decided by government policy. So, actually government need to deregulation the policy. we believe if less documentation with less complicated process in transit there will be many carrier transit in Malaysia that directly will generate our economy.

3.Environmental impacts
Pollution including noise, generated by circulation has become a serious impediment to the quality of life and even the health of urban populations. for example pollution is air pollution that comes from fog. So this will affect the freight in transit. So this is the challenges that carrier faced during in transit the product will be damaged or broken by pollution. So that carrier must to ensure and focusing to the safety of the shipment.

4. Connectivity
Public transit systems are often independent from other modes and terminals. It is consequently difficult to transfer passengers from one system to the other. This leads to a paradox between the preference of riders to have direct connections and the need to provide a cost efficient service network that involves transfers.
